Assists NWT Community/Regional Wildlife Organizations in the local harvest of plants, berries, caribou, muskox and other wild species. It has two components: Community Harvests, and Take a Kid Harvesting.
Provides funding for agricultural research studies and pilot projects to investigate and evaluate the cultivation of new crops to increase crop diversification, production techniques, processing and the commercial feasibility of non-timber forest products relevant to the NWT
Provides support for food processing plant personnel food safety training, processing facility HACCP plan development, food safety programs pertaining to commercial wildlife harvest and health risk assessments related to contaminated animals to NWT agricultural producers, food harvesters, food processors and business managers.
Supports the development of the NWT agriculture industry and helps agricultural producers, agri-food processors, harvesters and agri-business managers obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to increase production and become more competitive in the marketplace.
Provides a single comprehensive and readily-accessible database of Government contracting and allows the Government to collect, monitor, evaluate and report on its procurement activity in accordance with its obligations under the Agreement on Internal Trade.
One-time contributions are available through the Western Harvesters Assistance Program to local and regional Aboriginal organizations to assist and promote renewable resource harvesting.
