Responsible for ensuring that the rights, status and privileges of the eleven official languages of the Northwest Territories are protected within government institutions, and investigates allegations that the Official Languages Act has been violated.
Provides advice to Members of the Legislative Assembly on how to arrange business and financial affairs in order to comply with the Legislative Assembly and Executive Council Act; conducts investigations into complaints against Members; and maintains a public disclosure registry.
Conducts and administers general elections, by-elections and plebiscites in the Northwest Territories according to legislation enacted by the Legislative Assembly; educates, informs and empowers eligible voters and candidates.
Provides information packages and brochures to individuals, schools, and organizations, including fact sheets on the Legislative Assembly, its history, its Members and consensus government.
