The holder of a border licence A is entitled to hunt game, subject to hunting regulations made under the Wildlife Act, in the area set out in Schedule A.

For example, The Superintendent may issue a border licence A to an applicant who lives in the northern half of Saskatchewan or Manitoba and depends on hunting in the Territories for a livelihood.

For example, the Superintendent may issue a border licence B to an applicant who lives in, or in the immediate vicinity of Fort Chipewyan, Alberta and depends on hunting barren-ground caribou as a means of providing food for his or her family or himself or herself.

The holder of a registered trapping area licence is entitled exclusively to hunt fur-bearing animals in the wildlife management area specified in the licence.

or small game authorization.

Licences and tags may be purchased from most ENR offices in the NWT. Licences and tags are issued for one year starting July 1 and ending June 30. The licence is valid for a species only during an open season for that species.
