This is a special-purpose fund used for community-based projects and activities that directly support or benefit victims of crime.
The Victims Assistance Fund does not directly compensate individual victims. This fund is maintained through victim fine surcharges imposed by judges under the authority of the Criminal Code and the Victims of Crime Act.
The Victims of Crime Act establishes a Victims Assistance Fund (VAF). The fund is administered by the Victims Assistance Committee (VAC) who review funding proposals for the VAF and make funding recommendations to the Minister of Justice who approves the disbursement of funds.
